Last Summer we got Jadon a two foot deep pool to use for water therapy. He Loved it as long as the water temperature was perfect. It was a challenge waiting for the weather to regulate the heat and I began to research ways of making it happen. Our dream was to get a Hot Tub for him but the financial burden of this made it a pipe dream at best. In short there was NO WAY we could afford a hot tub, but we saw how much fun it could be for him.
How does the saying go? “God works in mysterious ways.”
Early in the spring I volunteered to help our neighbors design and build a swing set playground. They were going to build something very basic without a theme and we just can’t have that. (It will look like a castle with two towers). When these same neighbors talked about finding someone to buy their old hot tub I asked what the price would be, simply for future reference when we may some how be able to afford one. They came back and said that we could HAVE the hot tub.
“Consider it trade for helping with the playground,” they said.
WOW. How could we pass that up? We began getting bids for the electrical work and a concrete pad for the tub to reside. Instantly we were back to NOT getting a hot tub. The total for both was going to be $2,000. Suddenly the FREE hot tub wasn’t so free.
CNC Electric, one of the companies that bid the project, called and said they were teaming up with 33 Church here in Olathe and would like to do our project for free. WOW! They had seen Jadon when they came to bid so I explained our purpose for the tub and they were moved to help out in a very big way.
We were still not sure how we would pay for the concrete when the neighbor on the other side asked me to build them a new deck. The 12 step commute to work was perfect and the money I made from the deck paid for the concrete, a new cover, stain, and the privacy fence. The concrete company lowered their price a little for us and we were able to make it happen.
On June 4th guys from two different churches and some long time friends came to our house for what I dubbed as “Donuts and Hernias” to help us move the tub from one house to the other. With 12 guys it was a piece of cake (or a Donut).
It took well over a month to get everything ready but finally we were swimming. We have gone swimming over 10 times and last Tuesday was possibly the best time. We were in the tub for over 45 minutes. Jadon’s eyes were wide and he kept giggling as we did splashes and circles. We gave Jadon the swimming nickname of Bobby because he is like a fishing bobber. When we push his legs down he POPS right back up, he’s a very buoyant little fella. The evening was priceless.
The tub has issues and needs a heater that doesn’t leak. We will shut it down for the winter and figure it out when it warms up again. We are not sure how we will pay for these repairs but it most certainly is HIGH on the priority list for next spring. Can you put a price on those little giggles? Those giggles are our world!
